Always the site of the Cima Coppi when it appears – the competition to be first rider the pass the highest climb of the Giro d'Italia, started in 1965 to honour Fausto Coppi – the awesome Stelvio Pass stands at 2,757m above sea level and is known for its profusion of hairpin bends.
First featured in 1953, when Coppi himself bettered Hugo Koblet in the penultimate stage and went on to win the whole Giro, the Stelvio Pass is always a highlight, being the perfect spot for a breakaway and known for making or shattering many a GC challenge.
